ERP Specialized Practices
The software industry loves to use best practices to it's advantage. If you're not doing things the way that SAP says you should you must be doing it wrong, right? One of the realities of best practices as they pertain to software sales is that it's indisputably much easier for a software company to sell many copies of the same canned program than it is for a software company to sell one program with specialized features. For many of the ERP systems vendors, specialized practices are outright irrational. Specialized functionality slows down the sales cycle, the implementation cycle, and the sale.

There is a new breed of ERP system emerging in the market place due in large part to the ease with which browser based systems can be implemented. Companies like Tuppas software and Demand ERP are redifining the way that ERP is done. These companies specialize in custom systems and software as a service SaaS. They actually specialize in specialization. The new systems are systems which are often referred to as Agile ERP systems because the contain all the functionality that you are used to in a conventional system yet they can really change their interface and data structures dramatically. They are capable of truly dramatic changes that go way beyond user defined fields and added procedures within existing screens. In contrast to best practices ERP systems, an agile vendor will not only implement ERP but will design ways for you to out perform your competitors.
