Manufacturing ERP Software
We recently reviewed a manufacturing ERP software vendor that we think are definitely worth writing about. Tuppas software is a software company that specializes in ERP software for manufacturing companies. The company is a little different than most in that it specializes in highly configured systems. Most of the ERP systems on the market are canned or so called "Best Practices" systems. When translated, this means "The best way to get everyone's money doing very little work". We could tell when we looked at all the different modules and the level of detail within the modules for specific customers that the folks at Tuppas really work to implement specifically configured systems for their customers. If you're looking for a system, you really owe it to yourself to check these guys out.

Tuppas offers over twenty modules which can be purchased separately or as a collection. They told us that the typical implementation time for a configured module is about six weeks on average and that they apply a team of people when they implement an ERP system. Tuppas has invested much of their effort into toolsets. While most of the vendors who offer manufacturing ERP software sell a canned or boxed solution with minimal configuration capability, Tuppas chose a different road. They invested in tools that allow them to make huge modifications to their systems. When we took a look at their advanced planning systems and we were really impressed. Every system they showed us was specific to the industry and even the plant that it was installed at. Their focus is on best practices but more that that they focus on innovation. I asked if managing all of the code was a nightmare for them and they took me under the hood of the framework. Tuppas uses technology called Model Driven Architecture or MDA. MDA is a technology that allows the company to put together really creative systems and keep them perpetually up to date with current technology. When modifications are made to a Tuppas system they are stored seperately from the Tuppas systems. This way the Tuppas interface can be upgraded and you don't need to rebuild your systems.
